Asking For What You Want

Growing up, I used to admire watching my dad. He had a way with people where he always captivated and drew people in.

I believe that was part of his calling. His attention to detail and making people feel so special was always magical to witness.

He had a way that whenever he needed something, he could always find a way to get it. Because people found him to be so friendly and genuine that they wanted to help.

One of the best pieces of life advice from him was when he told me, “Finda, always tell people what you are looking for. God works through people, not in a vacuum”.

It’s funny because I hated telling people what I was looking or what I needed. I always felt like I was bothering them. But then I realized, that’s just my insecurity and I wasn’t allowing myself to receive what I was really looking for.

Imagine being in a restaurant and the waiter comes up to you, goes over the specials of the day and asks, “What can I get you started with?”, and then you say nothing.

Not only would that be perceived as weird, but you obviously won’t get anything. They don’t know how to help you without you saying what you really want.

This concept works anywhere, from shopping in a store or even being at the airport. If you don’t ask for help or let people know what you need, you won’t get it.

So try a little experiment for the next few days with asking for help with what you really want. Have fun with it and see the amazing things that will happen.
