5 Ways To Become Healthy

Still shot of Finda Kpakiwa talking after having made a smoothie.

When thinking about being healthy, two things usually come to mind. Hitting the gym and getting on a diet.

The truth is, those are only two POSSIBLE ways of becoming healthier.

Being healthy is something that can be achieved only through making what I like to call the Mind, Body, Soul connection. Once you have these three in line, you’ll see increased benefits almost immediately.

Read on to discover the many facets of achieving overall health and wellness that will have a lifetime impact!

What It Means To Be Healthy

Let’s start with the most impactful aspect of having a healthy body…

FOOD!

Yes, what you put into your body does account for 80% of your physical results. But does that mean simply counting your calories or only eating proteins? Of course not!

Fad diets promise many things, but simply sticking to healthy foods and avoiding heavily processed products can have a major impact on your physical health. Even with low impact activities.

That leads right into getting good exercise! Did you know that even doing a 30 minute routine three days a week provides good results? That paired with high quality food is a game changer.

Finally, what you put into your mind can’t really be quantified by any percentage. Your thoughts and actions will dictate your outcomes the most.

Think about it. If you work a desk job, then come home to play video games, then watch Netflix while eating processed foods only to rinse and repeat day after day…

You get the idea! Your habits, which is a result of your mindset, will have the MOST impact on what you do on a day to day basis. When you put better things into your mind, you set yourself up for success.

Why Start Now?

A better question would be, Why Not?!

Most people that I’ve spoken to about their wellness needs stated that they were basically “creatures of habit” and that they were “too late” in life to consider changing things.

This mindset formed the habits that kept them from getting great results. Once I helped them to shift their thinking and form new habits, they couldn’t help but to be excited for the results they began to experience!

Just know that it’s NEVER too late to start on a wellness journey. You deserve the best that life has to offer. Don’t let bad habits and excuses take that away from you.

Mind, Body and Soul

“What dominates your mind will control your life.” That’s a lyric from the song “What If” by the band Creed.

It states simply what I’ve told many of my clients. What you feed your mind is just as important as what you feed your body!

Your mindset will determine your actions, which is what your habits are usually built on. As I’ve mentioned before in this post, it’s vital to guard your mind from anything that would derail you in your wellness journey.

Examples of this include garbage television (reality shows, for example), mindless social media scrolling, too much negative news, etc.

If you fill your mind with a bunch of that nonsense, you make decisions and take actions that will only produce poor results.

My suggestion? Read books that will improve your knowledge, watch programs or podcasts that are aligned with your goals, and work to develop habits that will do the same.

The same strategy can be used for the food you eat and the physical activity you engage in. Once those are set, you’ll see results that you only dreamed of!

Lastly, the Soul!

Being in tune with positivity will boost your quality of life, period. Get into some meditation, engage in prayer, or whatever provides you with a good sense of self.

Keeping your energy on a positive frequency will only help you to achieve great things.

5 Ways To Become Healthy

  1. Watch what you eat! Nutrition accounts for 80% of your physical results. Be mindful of the foods you consume and get plenty of water, since your body is made up of 70% of it.
  2. Get into some exercise. Find a routine that you can stick to that will elevate your heart rate and provide a good challenge. You can go to YouTube and find many forms of exercise at different levels of difficulty, so there’s no excuse!
  3. Practice Mindfulness. This can be done by meditation, prayer, and reading books. Always be on the lookout for things that will help you to grow and achieve your goals.
  4. Dive into spirituality. I’m not talking about religion here. There are many benefits to getting in tune with your soul. Getting on the right “frequency” so to speak will provide you with great vibes and some motivation to continue on your wellness journey.
  5. Kill bad habits and build new ones. Getting rid of habits that have long held you back is a lot of work, but the benefits would be more than worth it. One good book to read is Atomic Habits by James Clear. Once you have a habit established that serves you, you’ll wonder why you didn’t change it sooner!

Conclusion

It takes an all around approach to not only get great results, but to maintain them for the rest of your life.
